India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.41%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.41% to hit a new 52-week high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.40%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which rose 2.23% or 3.10 points to trade at 142.35 at the close. Meanwhile, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.20% or 4.65 points to end at 216.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd (NS:ICBK) was up 1.87% or 16.75 points to 911.70 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which fell 6.09% or 15.05 points to trade at 232.15 at the close. HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) declined 1.01% or 5.45 points to end at 533.40 and Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS) was down 0.71% or 12.50 points to 1,736.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which rose 2.20% to 215.90, ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which was up 1.92% to settle at 912.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.64% to close at 835.10.

The worst performers were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.76% to 1,705.35 in late trade, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which lost 0.60% to settle at 345.15 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 0.43% to 2,606.70 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1012 to 881 and 52 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1805 fell and 1590 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.84% to 14.64.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.12% or 2.15 to $1,779.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.94% or 0.81 to hit $85.06 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.65 to trade at $92.49 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 81.03, while EUR/INR rose 1.10% to 84.52.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.63% at 105.86.
