India stocks higher at close of trade; Nifty 50 up 0.16%

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.16%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.21%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH), which rose 2.60% or 125.15 points to trade at 4,946.00 at the close. Meanwhile, UltraTech Cement Ltd (NS:ULTC) added 2.55% or 205.70 points to end at 8,260.00 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 1.97% or 4.20 points to 217.20 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which fell 1.86% or 2.20 points to trade at 115.95 at the close. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 1.56% or 12.30 points to end at 774.85 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) was down 1.51% or 6.80 points to 444.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:ULTC) which rose 2.43% to 8,244.65, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.14% to settle at 217.40 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 1.78% to close at 1,418.50.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 1.90% to 115.90 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 1.13% to settle at 857.00 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 0.86% to 1,469.40 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1027 to 963 and 61 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1774 rose and 1732 declined, while 123 ended unchanged.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.08% to 12.13 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.10% or 1.95 to $1,937.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.30% or 0.24 to hit $80.75 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.25 to trade at $84.64 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.39% to 83.17, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 90.81.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 102.98.
