Democrats and Republicans have been battling over spending bills and infrastructure this week, but one battle that you may not have heard about happened Wednesday night outside on a field of grass.

The annual Congressional Baseball Game was played on Wednesday night at Nationals Park, and Republicans beat Democrats 13-12.

“I’m fired up,” California Democrat Eric Swalwell said before the game.

Congressman Greg Steube, House Republican from Florida’s 17th district, hit a home run and posted it on Twitter

“You need to do this every now and then, where you get away from the madness and come out and play the kid’s game in the big league ballpark,” House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said. “You’re competing, and it was very intense competition. But we’re going to go back to work tomorrow, but it’s nice to just come and do something like this where you can build better relationships.”

At a GOP practice for the Congressional Baseball Game in 2017, Scalise was shot and wounded by a Virginia man. Scalise received loud applause after returning to the following year’s game.

President Biden also attended the game, which was played in the stadium where MLB’s Washington Nationals play their home games.

Opinion: Congress is about to kill this popular retirement tax move

The Congressional Baseball Game was started in 1909 and proceeds from the event go to Washington, D.C. area charities such as The Washington Literacy Center, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, and Washington Nationals Philanthropies and the U.S. Capitol Police Memorial Fund.

The game was held as Congress is planning votes Thursday on a short-term spending bill to keep the federal government operating through early December.
