Google will soon drop TV and movies from its Play store app, and is telling users to switch over to the Google TV app to get the same content.

Google said it redesigned the Google TV app last year, and that starting in May, users who wish to rent or buy TV shows and movies will have to migrate from Play to the revamped TV app.
“On Google TV, you will find the same experience you are used to on Google Play Movies & TV with the latest new releases, rentals, deals, and great recommendations for you,” the company said.
Google said all previously purchased content will still be available on the Google TV app, and Google Play gift cards and credits can still be used for purchases.

But while Google claims the move should be seamless for customers, a blog post on 9to5Google noted that the Google TV app is not currently available on many platforms, creating potential headaches for users who may have to use the clunkier YouTube interface to access their Google Play TV and movies from Roku
ROKU,
devices or smart TVs.
The change comes more than a year after Google Play Music similarly shifted over to YouTube Music, and will leave Google Play as a digital storefront for just apps, games and e-books.
