At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.70%, while the MDAX index lost 0.40%, and the TecDAX index added 0.55%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Covestro AG (DE:1COV), which rose 5.00% or 2.230 points to trade at 46.830 at the close. Meanwhile, Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) added 2.33% or 2.90 points to end at 127.25 and Bayer AG NA (DE:BAYGN) was up 0.74% or 0.42 points to 57.24 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p), which fell 3.73% or 5.51 points to trade at 142.13 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 3.60% or 3.37 points to end at 90.28 and Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG) was down 2.91% or 1.620 points to 54.070.
The top performers on the MDAX were Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which rose 5.03% to 173.400, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was up 3.40% to settle at 42.53 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 3.18% to close at 344.200.
The worst performers were Aroundtown Property Holdings PLC (DE:AT1) which was down 7.44% to 4.339 in late trade, Grenke N AG (DE:GLJn) which lost 6.62% to settle at 33.30 and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which was down 4.99% to 8.602 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Bechtle AG (DE:BC8G) which rose 5.03% to 173.400, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was up 3.40% to settle at 42.53 and Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which gained 3.18% to close at 344.200.
The worst performers were New Work SE (DE:NWOn) which was down 2.05% to 239.00 in late trade, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which lost 2.00% to settle at 22.100 and United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which was down 1.84% to 39.990 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 429 to 240 and 76 ended unchanged.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 0.20% to 24.59.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.85% or 16.65 to $1966.55 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.10% or 0.04 to hit $41.01 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.51% or 0.22 to trade at $43.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.15% to 1.1865, while EUR/GBP rose 0.47% to 0.9173.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 92.838.
