Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.88%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.88%, while the MDAX index declined 1.30%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.71%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which rose 1.49% or 3.30 points to trade at 224.25 at the close. Meanwhile, HelloFresh SE (DE:HFGG) added 0.96% or 0.66 points to end at 69.26 and Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) was up 0.84% or 0.410 points to 48.980 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Porsche Automobil Holding SE (DE:PSHG_p), which fell 4.12% or 3.470 points to trade at 80.850 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 3.36% or 3.08 points to end at 88.51 and Muench. Rueckvers. VNA O.N. (DE:MUVGn) was down 3.35% or 8.65 points to 249.30.

The top performers on the MDAX were Befesa SA (DE:BFSA) which rose 0.95% to 63.50, Uniper SE (DE:UN01) which was up 0.56% to settle at 41.140 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which gained 0.51% to close at 108.400.

The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 3.10% to 107.750 in late trade, Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which lost 3.06% to settle at 130.43 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) which was down 2.98% to 9.056 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Siltronic AG (DE:WAFGn) which rose 1.55% to 137.500, Nagarro SE (DE:NA9n) which was up 1.16% to settle at 174.00 and Qiagen NV (DE:QIA) which gained 0.84% to close at 48.980.

The worst performers were Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which was down 4.72% to 13.520 in late trade, S&T AG (DE:SANT1) which lost 4.50% to settle at 13.78 and Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 3.10% to 107.750 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 563 to 147 and 63 ended unchanged.

Shares in Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.36% or 3.08 to 88.51. Shares in Uniper SE (DE:UN01) rose to all time highs; gaining 0.56% or 0.230 to 41.140.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 23.23% to 24.24.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.53% or 9.65 to $1795.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.30% or 3.05 to hit $67.81 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.74% or 2.75 to trade at $70.77 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.40% to 1.1284, while EUR/GBP rose 0.67% to 0.8540.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 96.465.
