Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.40%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 1.40%, while the MDAX index declined 2.30%, and the TecDAX index lost 0.88%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:SATG_p), which rose 3.22% or 12.20 points to trade at 391.40 at the close. Meanwhile, RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG) added 1.87% or 0.67 points to end at 36.49 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (ETR:SY1G) was up 1.48% or 1.60 points to 109.55 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Daimler Truck Holding AG (ETR:DTGGe), which fell 4.98% or 1.26 points to trade at 24.05 at the close. Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) declined 4.31% or 1.44 points to end at 32.00 and Mercedes Benz Group AG (ETR:MBGn) was down 4.10% or 2.29 points to 53.58.

The top performers on the MDAX were Encavis AG (ETR:ECVG) which rose 3.06% to 20.56, Rational AG (ETR:RAAG) which was up 1.29% to settle at 627.00 and Vantage Towers AG (ETR:VTWRn) which gained 0.14% to close at 27.64.

The worst performers were Uniper SE (ETR:UN01) which was down 14.42% to 9.35 in late trade, Lanxess AG (ETR:LXSG) which lost 7.46% to settle at 32.88 and Tag Immobilien AG (ETR:TEGG) which was down 6.88% to 9.48 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were SMA Solar Technology AG (ETR:S92G) which rose 3.81% to 45.78, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:SATG_p) which was up 3.22% to settle at 391.40 and Qiagen NV (ETR:QIA) which gained 0.36% to close at 47.60.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 6.02% to 78.10 in late trade, Kontron AG (ETR:KTN) which lost 4.74% to settle at 14.07 and Cancom SE O.N. (ETR:COKG) which was down 4.35% to 31.26 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 489 to 200 and 81 ended unchanged.

Shares in Uniper SE (ETR:UN01) fell to all time lows; falling 14.42% or 1.58 to 9.35. Shares in Tag Immobilien AG (ETR:TEGG) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.88% or 0.70 to 9.48.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 5.90% to 30.69.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.45% or 7.85 to $1,734.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.59% or 0.62 to hit $104.17 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.09% or 0.10 to trade at $106.92 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.08% to 1.01, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.04% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.88% at 107.76.
