Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.97%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 0.97%, while the MDAX index declined 1.89%, and the TecDAX index fell 1.54%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which rose 2.27% or 0.235 points to trade at 10.575 at the close. Meanwhile, Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) added 1.93% or 3.65 points to end at 192.97 and RWE AG ST O.N. (DE:RWEG) was up 1.91% or 0.590 points to 31.455 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were MTU Aero Engines NA O.N. (DE:MTXGn), which fell 6.17% or 13.05 points to trade at 198.35 at the close. Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) declined 2.94% or 8.25 points to end at 272.20 and Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) was down 2.35% or 3.13 points to 130.05.

The top performers on the MDAX were GEA Group AG (DE:G1AG) which rose 3.71% to 31.885, Stroeer SE (DE:SAXG) which was up 1.64% to settle at 74.400 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) which gained 1.30% to close at 11.660.

The worst performers were TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was down 6.10% to 42.17 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which lost 5.94% to settle at 29.430 and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (DE:LHAG) which was down 5.29% to 11.720 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) which rose 1.15% to 19.320, Siemens Healthineers AG (DE:SHLG) which was up 1.07% to settle at 45.48 and Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (DE:EUZG) which gained 1.07% to close at 56.600.

The worst performers were LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which was down 7.96% to 23.700 in late trade, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which lost 6.10% to settle at 42.17 and Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which was down 5.94% to 29.430 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 498 to 211 and 48 ended unchanged.

Shares in Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (DE:VOWG_p) rose to 5-year highs; gaining 1.93% or 3.65 to 192.97. Shares in Freenet AG NA (DE:FNTGn) rose to 52-week highs; rising 1.15% or 0.220 to 19.320.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 8.74% to 25.13.

Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.02% or 0.35 to $1701.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.48% or 2.22 to hit $66.05 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.72% or 2.48 to trade at $69.22 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.48% to 1.1909, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8611.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.41% at 92.017.
