Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 0.94%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX declined 0.94%, while the MDAX index lost 0.76%, and the TecDAX index fell 0.48%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which rose 1.30% or 1.85 points to trade at 144.45 at the close. Meanwhile, SAP SE (DE:SAPG) added 0.26% or 0.270 points to end at 106.090 and Linde PLC (DE:LINI) was up 0.23% or 0.500 points to 221.100 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG), which fell 2.70% or 1.080 points to trade at 38.925 at the close. Continental AG O.N. (DE:CONG) declined 2.36% or 2.80 points to end at 116.05 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) was down 2.29% or 1.615 points to 68.885.

The top performers on the MDAX were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which rose 2.54% to 14.715, Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) which was up 2.03% to settle at 5.577 and Metro Wholesale & Food Specialist AG (DE:B4B) which gained 1.20% to close at 9.9920.

The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 5.44% to 120.000 in late trade, TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which lost 3.63% to settle at 40.86 and HelloFresh SE (DE:HFGG) which was down 3.41% to 62.40 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which rose 11.47% to 179.80, Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was up 2.54% to settle at 14.715 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which gained 2.63% to close at 66.400.

The worst performers were Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was down 5.44% to 120.000 in late trade, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which lost 4.47% to settle at 24.780 and TeamViewer AG (DE:TMV) which was down 3.63% to 40.86 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 452 to 230 and 28 ended unchanged.

Shares in Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG) rose to all time highs; up 1.30% or 1.85 to 144.45.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 7.47% to 24.18.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.81% or 14.85 to $1850.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.36% or 0.19 to hit $52.05 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.79% or 0.44 to trade at $55.55 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.50% to 1.2158, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.9016.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.51% at 90.525.
