At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.29%, while the MDAX index lost 1.53%, and the TecDAX index declined 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the DAX were Munich Reinsurance (ETR:MUVGn), which rose 3.69% or 9.20 points to trade at 258.80 at the close. Meanwhile, Hannover Rueck SE (ETR:HNRGn) added 2.75% or 4.25 points to end at 158.80 and Deutsche Boerse AG (ETR:DB1Gn) was up 2.26% or 3.55 points to 160.75 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Adidas AG (ETR:ADSGN), which fell 9.53% or 10.94 points to trade at 103.86 at the close. Puma SE (ETR:PUMG) declined 7.29% or 3.45 points to end at 43.85 and Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG) was down 3.16% or 0.74 points to 22.70.
The top performers on the MDAX were Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (ETR:HLE) which rose 1.06% to 71.55, Commerzbank AG O.N. (ETR:CBKG) which was up 1.05% to settle at 8.05 and Talanx AG NA O.N. (ETR:TLXGn) which gained 0.94% to close at 36.60.
The worst performers were Scout24 AG (ETR:G24n) which was down 7.26% to 50.32 in late trade, Delivery Hero AG (ETR:DHER) which lost 6.78% to settle at 34.26 and Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 4.69% to 27.64 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Verbio Vereinigte Bioenergie AG (ETR:VBKG) which rose 2.38% to 75.35, Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG) which was up 2.19% to settle at 8.57 and SAP SE (ETR:SAPG) which gained 1.75% to close at 91.40.
The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 4.69% to 27.64 in late trade, Morphosys AG O.N. (ETR:MORG) which lost 4.31% to settle at 21.53 and United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) which was down 2.71% to 18.48 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 431 to 235 and 89 ended unchanged.

Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 3-years lows; falling 4.69% or 1.36 to 27.64. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 3-years lows; down 4.69% or 1.36 to 27.64. Shares in United Internet AG NA (ETR:UTDI) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.71% or 0.51 to 18.48.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.25% to 27.55 a new 1-month low.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.26% or 20.70 to $1,657.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.82% or 0.69 to hit $85.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 1.11 to trade at $93.49 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.60% to 0.98, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.38% to 0.87.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.74% at 111.98.
