Germany stocks higher at close of trade; DAX up 0.73%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.73%, while the MDAX index added 1.06%, and the TecDAX index gained 1.41%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were Daimler AG NA O.N. (DE:DAIGn), which rose 3.70% or 2.060 points to trade at 57.730 at the close. Meanwhile, Covestro AG (DE:1COV) added 3.32% or 1.820 points to end at 56.720 and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (DE:BMWG) was up 3.00% or 2.050 points to 70.480 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which fell 4.30% or 6.40 points to trade at 142.38 at the close. Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn) declined 1.32% or 0.123 points to end at 9.171 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was down 0.44% or 1.25 points to 285.95.

The top performers on the MDAX were Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which rose 4.94% to 28.230, Varta AG (DE:VAR1) which was up 5.00% to settle at 126.100 and Cancom SE O.N. (DE:COKG) which gained 4.24% to close at 47.220.

The worst performers were Alstria Office Reit-Ag (DE:AOXG) which was down 1.44% to 14.330 in late trade, Puma SE (DE:PUMG) which lost 1.04% to settle at 86.59 and Symrise AG Inh. O.N. (DE:SY1G) which was down 0.82% to 100.125 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Jenoptik AG (DE:JENGn) which rose 5.63% to 25.500, LPKF Laser & Electronics (DE:LPKG) which was up 5.47% to settle at 29.900 and S&T AG (DE:SANT1) which gained 4.97% to close at 21.14.

The worst performers were Eckert & Ziegler AG O.N. (DE:EUZG) which was down 0.81% to 54.850 in late trade, New Work SE (DE:NWOn) which lost 0.60% to settle at 248.50 and Nemetschek AG O.N. (DE:NEKG) which was down 0.25% to 59.450 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 462 to 209 and 28 ended unchanged.

Shares in Covestro AG (DE:1COV) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.32% or 1.820 to 56.720.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 6.54% to 22.02.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.39% or 25.55 to $1865.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.89% or 0.47 to hit $53.45 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.89% or 0.50 to trade at $56.40 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.22% to 1.2101, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8874.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 90.502.
