About 64,000 portable home generators made by Generac Holdings Inc., and sold over the past 12 years, are being recalled due to “serious fire and burn hazards.”

The recall involves Generac Portable Generators type GP15000E and type GB17500E sold from April 2011 through June 2023, retailing between $3,300 and $3,650.

“The recalled generators’ fuel tank can fail to vent adequately from the rollover valve, causing the gas tank to build up excess pressure and expel fuel when opened, posing fire and burn hazards,” the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted on its website.

Generac said it has received 27 reports of the generators overheating or expelling fuel when opened, including three incidents resulting in “severe burn injuries.”

“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled generators and contact Generac for a free repair kit,” the company said.
