France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 2.68%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 lost 2.68% to hit a new 52-week low, while the SBF 120 index lost 2.65%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Pernod Ricard SA (EPA:PERP), which rose 0.86% or 1.50 points to trade at 176.45 at the close. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric SE (EPA:SCHN) added 0.16% or 0.18 points to end at 112.18 and Dassault Systemes SE (EPA:DAST) was up 0.11% or 0.04 points to 35.04 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were AXA SA (EPA:AXAF), which fell 6.45% or 1.40 points to trade at 20.38 at the close. TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTEF) declined 6.42% or 3.37 points to end at 49.06 and Renault SA (EPA:RENA) was down 5.84% or 1.41 points to 22.73.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Valneva (EPA:VLS) which rose 10.15% to 11.12, Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) which was up 8.04% to settle at 25.40 and Remy Cointreau (EPA:RCOP) which gained 4.62% to close at 174.40.

The worst performers were Vallourec (EPA:VLLP) which was down 10.33% to 9.23 in late trade, Coface (EPA:COFA) which lost 8.86% to settle at 9.30 and Eramet SA (EPA:ERMT) which was down 8.72% to 87.90 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 404 to 154 and 85 ended unchanged.

Shares in AXA SA (EPA:AXAF) fell to 52-week lows; down 6.45% or 1.40 to 20.38.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 1.93% or 34.85 to $1,766.65 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 9.26% or 10.04 to hit $98.39 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 10.05% or 11.41 to trade at $102.09 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 1.69% to 1.02, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.19% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.52% at 106.50.
