France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 1.72%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.72%, while the SBF 120 index lost 1.62%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Carrefour SA (PA:CARR), which rose 6.29% or 1.09 points to trade at 18.34 at the close. Meanwhile, Societe Generale SA (PA:SOGN) added 1.86% or 0.60 points to end at 32.85 and BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) was up 1.36% or 0.86 points to 64.19 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX), which fell 4.81% or 9.24 points to trade at 182.74 at the close. Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS) declined 4.69% or 74.00 points to end at 1504.50 and Capgemini SE (PA:CAPP) was down 4.37% or 9.30 points to 203.30.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were ALD SA (PA:ALDA) which rose 8.35% to 14.28, Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) which was up 6.29% to settle at 18.34 and CGG SA (PA:GEPH) which gained 3.15% to close at 0.739.

The worst performers were Coface (PA:COFA) which was down 10.30% to 11.50 in late trade, Mcphy Energy (PA:MCPHY) which lost 5.34% to settle at 19.69 and EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX) which was down 4.81% to 182.74 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 372 to 198 and 90 ended unchanged.

Shares in Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 6.29% or 1.09 to 18.34. Shares in Societe Generale SA (PA:SOGN) rose to 3-years highs; gaining 1.86% or 0.60 to 32.85. Shares in BNP Paribas SA (PA:BNPP) rose to 3-years highs; rising 1.36% or 0.86 to 64.19. Shares in ALD SA (PA:ALDA) rose to 52-week highs; rising 8.35% or 1.10 to 14.28. Shares in Carrefour SA (PA:CARR) rose to 3-years highs; up 6.29% or 1.09 to 18.34.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.88% or 34.30 to $1790.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.91% or 1.49 to hit $79.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.39% or 1.12 to trade at $81.92 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.15% to 1.1296, while EUR/GBP rose 0.04% to 0.8347.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.243.
