France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 1.52%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.52%, while the SBF 120 index lost 1.50%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Thales (EPA:TCFP), which fell 0.08% or 0.10 points to trade at 119.30 at the close. Meanwhile, Credit Agricole SA (EPA:CAGR) fell 0.29% or 0.03 points to end at 9.83 and Societe Generale SA (EPA:SOGN) was down 0.59% or 0.14 points to 23.48 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (EPA:MICP), which fell 3.04% or 0.82 points to trade at 25.98 at the close. Hermes International SCA (EPA:HRMS) declined 2.69% or 40.00 points to end at 1,445.00 and LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (EPA:LVMH) was down 2.38% or 16.60 points to 679.90.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Korian Medica SA (EPA:KORI) which rose 1.71% to 10.12, Orpea SA (EPA:ORP) which was up 1.58% to settle at 6.17 and Metropole Television SA (EPA:MMTP) which gained 0.26% to close at 15.35.

The worst performers were Mcphy Energy (EPA:MCPHY) which was down 3.90% to 12.21 in late trade, Valneva (EPA:VLS) which lost 3.08% to settle at 6.22 and Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (EPA:MICP) which was down 3.04% to 25.98 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 328 to 240 and 80 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.22% or 4.05 to $1,830.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.02% or 0.80 to hit $79.20 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.28% or 1.07 to trade at $84.53 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.48% to 1.07, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.12% to 0.89.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.40% at 103.18.
