France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 1.40%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.40%, while the SBF 120 index fell 1.39%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Euroapi SAS (EPA:EAPI), which rose 2.24% or 0.32 points to trade at 14.51 at the close. Meanwhile, AXA SA (EPA:AXAF) added 0.32% or 0.08 points to end at 23.41 and Compagnie Generale des Etablissements Michelin SCA (EPA:MICP) was up 0.12% or 0.15 points to 121.10 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT), which fell 4.54% or 1.36 points to trade at 28.50 at the close. WFD Unibail Rodamco NV (AS:URW) declined 3.49% or 2.23 points to end at 61.58 and Safran SA (EPA:SAF) was down 3.07% or 3.01 points to 95.07.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Electricite de France SA (EPA:EDF) which rose 6.32% to 8.62, Euroapi SAS (EPA:EAPI) which was up 2.24% to settle at 14.51 and Spie SA (EPA:SPIE) which gained 1.46% to close at 22.20.

The worst performers were Atos SE (EPA:ATOS) which was down 7.75% to 23.09 in late trade, Eramet SA (EPA:ERMT) which lost 7.04% to settle at 125.50 and Altarea SCA (EPA:IMAF) which was down 6.02% to 137.40 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 358 to 192 and 87 ended unchanged.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 18.96 a new 52-week high.

Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.29% or 5.45 to $1,851.05 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.37% or 0.45 to hit $121.66 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.24% or 0.30 to trade at $123.28 a barrel.

EUR/USD was down 0.58% to 1.07, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.35% to 0.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 103.02.
