Meta Platforms (NASDAQ:META) owned Facebook has had its large language model leaked online for anyone to download, according to an article by Vice on Tuesday.
The leaked language model, which is only available for approved researchers, government officials, or members of civil society, was reportedly shared on the anonymous English-language imageboard website 4chan.
Vice said last week, a member on the site uploaded a torrent file for Facebook’s tool, known as LLaMa (Large Language Model Meta AI).
In an email, a Meta Platforms spokesperson did not deny the leaks but told Vice its goal is to “share state-of-the-art AI models with members of the research community to help us evaluate and improve those models.”
They add that LLaMA was shared for research purposes, “consistent with how we have shared previous large language models,” and while the model is not accessible to all, “some have tried to circumvent the approval process.”
However, Vice reported that Meta appears to be filing takedown requests of the model online to control the spread.
