Dow Jones Newswires: American suspends OneWorld agreements with Russian airlines

American Airlines is the latest carrier to cut ties with Russian airlines, suspending interline agreements it has with Aeroflot and S7 Airlines.

Interlining is an industry practice that allows airlines to place passengers on competitors’ flights if they cancel their own in the event of a mechanical problem or poor weather.

also said that customers will no longer be able to earn or redeem miles flying on S7 as they can for other airlines that are members of the OneWorld alliance.

American doesn’t fly to Russia and doesn’t utilize the country’s airspace. Its request for overflight permission for one of its routes was still pending when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began last week.
