LAS VEGAS — It is part of the CES ritual: Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. showcases the interconnected home. Late Wednesday, it’s didn’t disappoint.

announced the SmartThings Station, a wireless charger doubling as a smart-home control device that signals the company has serious designs on a market ruled by Amazon.com Inc.

The $80 hub lets consumers remotely operate locks, thermostats and lights, and can be connected to a phone or tablet. The device also functions as a 15-watt wireless charging pad for phones, earbuds and other compatible items.

SmartThings Station will be available in the U.S. in February.
According to Samsung, there are more than 14 billion connected devices worldwide.
As it has in recent years, Samsung added to its high-end TV portfolio, albeit with incremental improvements. Most of the upgrades with this year’s Neo QLED, QLED, and OLED TVs focused on AI and enhanced picture processing.
