Bloomberg reported Monday that photos and documents from a Beyond Meat (NASDAQ:BYND) facility show noticeable Listeria, mold, and other food-safety issues.

The news adds to Beyond Meats’ recent struggles, with the plant expected to play a significant role in its future.

Beyond Meat shares are down 1.5% at the time of writing on Monday, but in 2022, the stock has declined almost 80% as demand for plant-based meat products continues to decline.

Citing an internal document provided by a former Beyond Meat employee concerned about conditions at the plant, the Bloomberg report reveals that products from the facility tested positive for Listeria on at least 11 occasions during the second half of last year and the first half of this year.

Listeria is a harmful bacteria. While the report states it is frequently present in food plants, it is more unusual for it to be found in the products themselves.

The Bloomberg article adds that two former employees confirmed the occurrence of the bacteria at the facility.
