Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.93%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.93%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Iress Ltd (ASX:IRE), which rose 9.89% or 0.61 points to trade at 6.78 at the close. Meanwhile, Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG) added 4.41% or 0.02 points to end at 0.35 and Wesfarmers Ltd (ASX:WES) was up 3.20% or 1.58 points to 51.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were EML Payments Ltd (ASX:EML), which fell 8.28% or 0.07 points to trade at 0.78 at the close. Pilbara Minerals Ltd (ASX:PLS) declined 8.02% or 0.41 points to end at 4.70 and Tabcorp Holdings Ltd (ASX:TAH) was down 7.76% or 0.09 points to 1.01.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 743 to 470 and 393 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 9.80% to 12.35.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.50 to $1,943.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.72% or 0.57 to hit $79.62 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.59 to trade at $83.95 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.64, while AUD/JPY rose 0.12% to 93.70.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 104.12.
