Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.77%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.77%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB), which rose 14.05% or 0.13 points to trade at 1.05 at the close. Meanwhile, Nanosonics Ltd (ASX:NAN) added 7.51% or 0.34 points to end at 4.87 and Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) was up 5.41% or 0.12 points to 2.34 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nuix Ltd (ASX:NXL), which fell 15.23% or 0.19 points to trade at 1.08 at the close. Ramelius Resources Ltd (ASX:RMS) declined 10.91% or 0.12 points to end at 0.98 and Woodside Energy Ltd (ASX:WDS) was down 7.23% or 2.72 points to 34.90.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 838 to 412 and 404 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 1.66% to 11.73.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.10% or 1.85 to $1,818.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.49% or 0.38 to hit $77.20 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.32% or 0.27 to trade at $83.02 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.27% to 0.66, while AUD/JPY rose 0.57% to 90.78.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 105.69.
