Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 0.32%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 fell 0.32%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Adbri Ltd (ASX:ABC), which rose 4.84% or 0.140 points to trade at 3.030 at the close. Meanwhile, Santos Ltd (ASX:STO) added 2.57% or 0.170 points to end at 6.780 and Brambles Ltd (ASX:BXB) was up 2.23% or 0.240 points to 10.990 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME), which fell 9.69% or 6.11 points to trade at 56.95 at the close. Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:CUV) declined 7.47% or 2.16 points to end at 26.77 and Pointsbet Holdings Ltd (ASX:PBH) was down 6.56% or 0.47 points to 6.70.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 722 to 721 and 402 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.78% to 10.922.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.35 to $1814.25 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.17% or 0.13 to hit $76.86 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.12 to trade at $79.88 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7236, while AUD/JPY fell 0.15% to 83.92.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 96.200.
