Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.72%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.72%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Zip Co Ltd (ASX:ZIP), which rose 14.29% or 0.09 points to trade at 0.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Hub24 Ltd (ASX:HUB) added 14.18% or 3.13 points to end at 25.21 and Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) was up 12.39% or 0.22 points to 2.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM), which fell 21.64% or 0.15 points to trade at 0.52 at the close. Adbri Ltd (ASX:ABC) declined 4.53% or 0.07 points to end at 1.37 and Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX:WHC) was down 3.61% or 0.39 points to 10.41.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 849 to 376 and 360 ended unchanged.

Shares in St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM) fell to 5-year lows; losing 21.64% or 0.15 to 0.52. Shares in Adbri Ltd (ASX:ABC) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.53% or 0.07 to 1.37.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 3.41% to 18.90.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 4.80 to $1,659.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.76% or 0.64 to hit $85.17 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.71% or 0.65 to trade at $92.27 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.11% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY rose 0.10% to 93.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 111.91.
