Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 1.02%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 1.02%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Nickel Mines Ltd (ASX:NIC), which rose 6.70% or 0.06 points to trade at 0.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB) added 5.81% or 0.05 points to end at 0.91 and Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX:GOR) was up 5.15% or 0.07 points to 1.43 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Nuix Ltd (ASX:NXL), which fell 6.40% or 0.06 points to trade at 0.81 at the close. Sims Metal Management Ltd (ASX:SGM) declined 2.80% or 0.42 points to end at 14.60 and Hub24 Ltd (ASX:HUB) was down 2.47% or 0.57 points to 22.51.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 765 to 610 and 416 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 9.92% to 15.02.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.38% or 6.50 to $1,735.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.12% or 0.10 to hit $86.89 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.28% or 0.26 to trade at $93.10 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.56% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY rose 0.75% to 98.24.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.96% at 107.69.
