Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.67%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.67%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were St Barbara Ltd (ASX:SBM), which rose 13.85% or 0.09 points to trade at 0.74 at the close. Meanwhile, G8 Education Ltd (ASX:GEM) added 7.32% or 0.08 points to end at 1.10 and Westgold Resources Ltd (ASX:WGX) was up 5.96% or 0.05 points to 0.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bendigo And Adelaide Bank Ltd (ASX:BEN), which fell 3.31% or 0.32 points to trade at 9.34 at the close. Zip Co Ltd (ASX:ZIP) declined 3.13% or 0.02 points to end at 0.62 and Nuix Ltd (ASX:NXL) was down 2.88% or 0.02 points to 0.68.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 732 to 549 and 380 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 9.32% to 12.44.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.32% or 5.90 to $1,819.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $75.34 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.11 to trade at $80.57 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY fell 0.11% to 92.81.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.10% at 103.67.
