Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.59%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 rose 0.59%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG), which rose 13.64% or 0.03 points to trade at 0.25 at the close. Meanwhile, Nickel Mines Ltd (ASX:NIC) added 6.67% or 0.07 points to end at 1.12 and Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) was up 6.48% or 0.14 points to 2.30 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Computershare Ltd. (ASX:CPU), which fell 5.53% or 1.42 points to trade at 24.25 at the close. Champion Iron Ltd (ASX:CIA) declined 4.83% or 0.39 points to end at 7.68 and AMP Ltd (ASX:AMP) was down 4.17% or 0.06 points to 1.26.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 825 to 471 and 391 ended unchanged.

Shares in Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV) rose to 52-week highs; up 6.48% or 0.14 to 2.30.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 0.39% to 12.92.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.55% or 10.20 to $1,879.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.94% or 1.43 to hit $75.20 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.90% or 1.49 to trade at $80.06 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.61% to 0.69, while AUD/JPY rose 0.67% to 91.41.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 103.43.
