Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.47%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.47%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB), which rose 18.39% or 0.08 points to trade at 0.51 at the close. Meanwhile, Wisetech Global Ltd (ASX:WTC) added 8.12% or 5.65 points to end at 75.25 and ARB Corporation Ltd (ASX:ARB) was up 7.90% or 2.51 points to 34.28 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:RHC), which fell 11.95% or 6.61 points to trade at 48.71 at the close. Costa Group Holdings Ltd (ASX:CGC) declined 10.84% or 0.36 points to end at 2.96 and Insignia Financial Ltd (ASX:IFL) was down 10.65% or 0.31 points to 2.60.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 706 to 563 and 401 ended unchanged.

Shares in Ramsay Health Care Ltd (ASX:RHC) fell to 5-year lows; losing 11.95% or 6.61 to 48.71. Shares in ARB Corporation Ltd (ASX:ARB) rose to 52-week highs; up 7.90% or 2.51 to 34.28. Shares in Insignia Financial Ltd (ASX:IFL) fell to 3-years lows; falling 10.65% or 0.31 to 2.60.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 5.41% to 11.25.

Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 1.05 to $1,949.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.67% or 0.53 to hit $78.36 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.59% or 0.49 to trade at $82.72 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 0.65, while AUD/JPY fell 0.02% to 93.85.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 103.43.
