At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.95%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.68%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.79%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 4.10% or 7.80 points to trade at 198.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) added 3.90% or 1.40 points to end at 37.19 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 3.38% or 5.03 points to 153.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which fell 0.78% or 0.56 points to trade at 71.59 at the close. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 0.53% or 0.73 points to end at 137.96 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was down 0.22% or 0.48 points to 219.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) which rose 15.32% to 249.24, Gartner Inc (NYSE:IT) which was up 12.15% to settle at 140.21 and Nordstrom Inc (NYSE:JWN) which gained 10.43% to close at 13.45.
The worst performers were Mosaic Co (NYSE:MOS) which was down 13.45% to 16.93 in late trade, Leggett & Platt Incorporated (NYSE:LEG) which lost 5.01% to settle at 41.34 and PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which was down 4.24% to 179.79 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Alaska Communications Systems (NASDAQ:ALSK) which rose 59.69% to 3.050, Aptevo Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:APVO) which was up 54.76% to settle at 9.7500 and Beasley Broadcast Group Inc (NASDAQ:BBGI) which gained 36.29% to close at 1.69.
The worst performers were ATIF Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ATIF) which was down 41.30% to 0.769 in late trade, SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which lost 23.75% to settle at 204.13 and OneSpan Inc (NASDAQ:OSPN) which was down 18.48% to 18.35 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2392 to 504 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2232 rose and 540 declined, while 52 ended unchanged.
Shares in Alaska Communications Systems (NASDAQ:ALSK) rose to 5-year highs; up 59.69% or 1.140 to 3.050. Shares in ATIF Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:ATIF) fell to all time lows; falling 41.30% or 0.541 to 0.769.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.96% to 35.29.
Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.82% or 15.60 to $1908.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.61% or 0.96 to hit $37.77 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.13% or 0.83 to trade at $39.80 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.49% to 1.1697, while USD/JPY fell 0.11% to 104.59.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 93.618.
