House Speaker Nancy Pelosi indicated Thursday she was still not prepared to send the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate.

At a news conference, Pelosi said she remained unsure about how Senate Republicans planned to proceed with the trial. She said she was concerned some Republicans want to dismiss the articles without any trial at all.

“Dismiss equals cover-up,” she said.

Republicans and Democrats agree that the Senate trial cannot begin until the House formally sends the articles of impeachment to the Senate and appoints managers.

House and Senate Democrats have been pressing for the Senate to agree before the trial starts to hear witnesses, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he has the votes to delay deciding the question until after the Senate trial begins.

“They won’t reveal the terms of engagement,” Pelosi said.

Asked if she would hold the articles indefinitely, Pelosi replied “no.”

“I’ll send them over when I’m ready. That will probably be soon,” the Speaker said.

“We want to see what they’re willing to do and the manner in which they will do it,” she added.

Pelosi is getting criticism from some Senate Democrats for delaying the impeachment process.
