If like the pilots in the movie “Top Gun” you have the need for speed, electric cars should be on your list of vehicles to purchase. With nearly instant torque, an EV explodes from the starting line in ways that most gas-powered vehicles can’t match.
To help you narrow down your search we compiled a list of the 10 fastest mass-market electric cars currently for sale. We’ve tossed out the supercars with limited availability and nation-bankrupting price tags and found only the vehicles actual mortals can buy.

Right now, though, it’s the fastest EV SUV available.

6. Tesla Model Y Performance

Tesla’s smaller SUV might not have a Plaid mode, but it’s no slouch on the road. The Performance variant can haul itself from zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is 155 mph and it does it with an EPA-estimated range of 303 miles.

Audi’s performance EV variant is a good reminder that the German automaker is sticking to its roots as it transitions to electric vehicles. It does all of this while exhibiting impressive handling thanks to the Audi quattro all-wheel-drive system.
8. Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+

According to the automaker, the i4 M50 can leap from zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds, thanks to a dual-motor setup that produces 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. The top speed is 140 mph. It does all of this in a package that most would be hard-pressed to note is an EV.
