Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the fell 1.03%, while the index lost 0.99%.

The best performers of the session on the were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:), which rose 3.82% or 7.55 points to trade at 204.95 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:) added 2.70% or 5.90 points to end at 224.15 and GAIL Ltd (NS:) was up 1.78% or 2.25 points to 128.60 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:), which fell 4.66% or 79.10 points to trade at 1619.00 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:) declined 3.71% or 4.55 points to end at 118.10 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) was down 3.48% or 9.80 points to 271.90.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:) which rose 3.75% to 204.80, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which was up 1.85% to settle at 509.25 and ITC Ltd (BO:) which gained 0.85% to close at 241.90.

The worst performers were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was down 4.70% to 1618.05 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which lost 3.08% to settle at 1532.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:) which was down 2.39% to 122.35 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1040 to 510 and 93 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1515 fell and 893 advanced, while 170 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) rose to 5-year highs; rising 1.85% or 9.25 to 509.25.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 9.08% to 15.4100.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.04% or 0.55 to $1559.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.38% or 0.22 to hit $58.80 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.35 to trade at $65.20 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.08% to 71.132, while EUR/INR rose 0.02% to 78.8540.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.445.
