Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the lost 0.45%, while the index declined 0.49%.

The best performers of the session on the were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:), which rose 8.63% or 19.15 points to trade at 241.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:) added 4.52% or 12.25 points to end at 283.00 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:) was up 1.39% or 6.35 points to 463.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:), which fell 3.29% or 16.15 points to trade at 474.50 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:) declined 2.86% or 16.25 points to end at 550.95 and Tata Motors Ltd (NS:) was down 2.44% or 4.75 points to 190.25.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were UltraTech Cement Ltd (BO:) which rose 0.50% to 4489.45, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:) which was up 0.46% to settle at 1625.50 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:) which gained 0.37% to close at 2464.50.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which was down 3.01% to 475.90 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which lost 2.42% to settle at 553.35 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:) which was down 2.10% to 7290.05 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 874 to 645 and 101 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1318 fell and 1064 advanced, while 161 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.94% to 15.8625 a new 1-month high.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.31% or 4.85 to $1555.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.96% or 0.56 to hit $58.02 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 0.79 to trade at $64.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.17% to 71.147, while EUR/INR rose 0.26% to 79.0025.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 97.270.
