Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the added 0.92% to hit a new all time high, while the index climbed 1.01%.

The best performers of the session on the were Tata Steel Ltd (NS:), which rose 4.64% or 19.55 points to trade at 439.40 at the close. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:) added 4.54% or 19.15 points to end at 439.95 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:) was up 3.36% or 4.95 points to 152.35 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:), which fell 1.25% or 5.45 points to trade at 429.05 at the close. GAIL Ltd (NS:) declined 0.87% or 1.05 points to end at 119.80 and Titan Company Ltd (NS:) was down 0.40% or 4.65 points to 1157.35.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:) which rose 4.38% to 439.50, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:) which was up 4.30% to settle at 439.95 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:) which gained 3.78% to close at 75.45.

The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:) which was down 1.37% to 429.05 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which lost 0.63% to settle at 505.85 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.56% to 3201.75 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 930 to 620 and 85 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1374 rose and 1013 declined, while 185 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.69% to 12.5175 a new 3-months low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.20% or 2.95 to $1483.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $60.16 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.11% or 0.07 to trade at $65.41 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.10% to 70.983, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 79.1835.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 96.700.
