Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the gained 0.61%, while the index climbed 0.66%.

The best performers of the session on the were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:), which rose 6.63% or 2.55 points to trade at 41.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:) added 5.85% or 6.65 points to end at 120.30 and GAIL Ltd (NS:) was up 2.82% or 3.55 points to 129.45 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:), which fell 7.21% or 21.65 points to trade at 278.70 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:) declined 3.99% or 22.45 points to end at 540.50 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:) was down 1.40% or 6.60 points to 465.00.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:) which rose 2.98% to 1332.80, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:) which was up 2.31% to settle at 566.80 and State Bank Of India (BO:) which gained 2.26% to close at 323.25.

The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:) which was down 1.24% to 768.45 in late trade, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:) which lost 0.59% to settle at 2193.45 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:) which was down 0.40% to 1527.00 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 900 to 642 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1385 rose and 1026 declined, while 137 ended unchanged.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.09% to 15.8550.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.21% or 3.20 to $1553.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.55% or 0.88 to hit $55.86 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.25% or 0.79 to trade at $62.42 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.37% to 71.330, while EUR/INR rose 0.34% to 79.0900.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.312.
