Germany stocks lower at close of trade; DAX down 1.30%

At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 1.30%, while the MDAX index lost 1.50%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.33%.

The best performers of the session on the DAX were RWE AG ST O.N. (ETR:RWEG), which rose 0.14% or 0.06 points to trade at 41.91 at the close. Meanwhile, Hannover Rueck SE (ETR:HNRGn) added 0.08% or 0.15 points to end at 185.80 and Covestro AG (ETR:1COV) was up 0.03% or 0.01 points to 36.53 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p), which fell 4.09% or 4.90 points to trade at 114.88 at the close. Zalando SE (ETR:ZALG) declined 3.03% or 1.00 points to end at 31.99 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn) was down 3.02% or 0.90 points to 28.89.

The top performers on the MDAX were Rheinmetall AG (ETR:RHMG) which rose 2.36% to 191.20, Sixt SE (ETR:SIXG) which was up 0.46% to settle at 86.45 and Befesa SA (ETR:BFSA) which gained 0.41% to close at 44.00.

The worst performers were Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (ETR:HLE) which was down 4.85% to 73.55 in late trade, Aurubis AG (ETR:NAFG) which lost 4.40% to settle at 77.84 and HelloFresh SE (ETR:HFGG) which was down 4.39% to 20.67 at the close.

The top performers on the TecDAX were Nordex SE O.N. (ETR:NDXG) which rose 0.54% to 12.21, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (ETR:SATG_p) which was down 0.14% to settle at 345.30 and Qiagen NV (ETR:QIA) which lost 0.17% to close at 46.54.

The worst performers were Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) which was down 5.47% to 22.65 in late trade, Nemetschek AG O.N. (ETR:NEKG) which lost 3.10% to settle at 47.16 and Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (ETR:IFXGn) which was down 3.02% to 28.89 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange by 524 to 164 and 72 ended unchanged.

Shares in Volkswagen AG VZO O.N. (ETR:VOWG_p) fell to 52-week lows; falling 4.09% or 4.90 to 114.88. Shares in Varta AG (ETR:VAR1) fell to 3-years lows; down 5.47% or 1.31 to 22.65.

The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 4.38% to 20.24.

Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.49% or 27.25 to $1,798.15 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.18% or 0.92 to hit $77.37 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.44% or 1.18 to trade at $81.02 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 1.06, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.34% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 104.19.
