France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 0.42%

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 0.42%, while the SBF 120 index fell 0.42%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM), which rose 3.45% or 1.48 points to trade at 44.38 at the close. Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) added 3.40% or 1.00 points to end at 30.52 and Veolia Environnement VE SA (PA:VIE) was up 2.60% or 0.84 points to 33.17 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS), which fell 3.82% or 57.50 points to trade at 1447.00 at the close. EssilorLuxottica SA (PA:ESLX) declined 3.05% or 5.58 points to end at 177.16 and Pernod Ricard SA (PA:PERP) was down 2.35% or 4.90 points to 203.50.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were Trigano SA (PA:TRIA) which rose 5.83% to 183.40, STMicroelectronics NV (PA:STM) which was up 3.45% to settle at 44.38 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:MT) which gained 3.40% to close at 30.52.

The worst performers were Ovh Groupe SAS (PA:OVH) which was down 4.24% to 23.95 in late trade, Hermes International SCA (PA:HRMS) which lost 3.82% to settle at 1447.00 and Euronext (PA:ENX) which was down 3.11% to 85.80 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 291 to 288 and 86 ended unchanged.

Shares in Veolia Environnement VE SA (PA:VIE) rose to 5-year highs; rising 2.60% or 0.84 to 33.17.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was unchanged 0% to 18.96 a new 52-week low.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 6.75 to $1795.95 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.89% or 0.71 to hit $78.75 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.35 to trade at $81.64 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.58% to 1.1357, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8364.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 95.785.
