Autotrader: Go topless: the 10 cheapest convertibles

It seems like convertibles are getting a little rarer every year. Several offerings have been discontinued in the U.S. in recent years, including the Volkswagen

Beetle, Buick Cascada, Mercedes-Benz SLC Roadster, and multiple Fiat models. However, there are still some appealing convertibles on the new market for drop-top driving enjoyment.

Here are the 10 most affordable new convertibles this year.

1. Audi TT: $53,900

The Audi TT Roadster is something a little more eye-catching among the largely conservative styling in the Audi lineup. It’s a small, nimble convertible that doubles as a grand touring car that’s great for comfortable, long-distance driving. Add standard AWD, and this luxury convertible is more versatile than it looks.

2. BMW 4 Series: $53,100

has an edgy look and the engaging driving experience that you would expect from the brand. A powerful lineup of engines motivates the 4 Series and an available convertible roof further adds to the fun.

3. Audi A5: $50,400

The Audi A5 benefits from one of the nicest interiors in its competitive class, and it’s packed with easy-to-use tech features. It also delivers a comfortable ride and strong performance, including from the base engine, and we love that Quattro all-wheel drive comes standard on every trim.

4. BMW Z4: $49,700

If you like the idea of a luxury sports car but don’t have a huge budget, the BMW Z4 is an appealing option. It’s not exactly cheap, but compared to more expensive competitors, it offers good value and exciting performance. It also has a head-turning style and pretty good fuel economy from the base engine.

5. BMW 2 Series: $41,850

In many ways, the BMW 2 Series is a love letter to BMW enthusiasts. It uses a simple formula of combining luxury and an engaging drive in a package that isn’t too big. The convertible version of the 2 Series is a good value for a German luxury car, and it delivers a rewarding drive every time you’re behind the wheel.

Mustang is an American icon, partly because of its excellent value proposition. The Mustang Convertible is fun, stylish, and a thrill to drive, even with the base EcoBoost turbocharged engine, which nicely blends strong performance with good fuel economy.

7. Chevrolet Camaro: $32,495

For a drop-top muscle car that won’t break the bank, consider the Chevrolet Camaro convertible. It has a range of strong engines to choose from, and the handling is more nimble than most of the Camaros of the past. It also offers one of the most user-friendly infotainment systems in the business.

8. Jeep Wrangler: $28,315

The most affordable convertible SUV this year (and most years) is the Jeep Wrangler. There are a lot of things that make the Wrangler not quite like any other SUV, and one of those things is its removable top. This off-roader has multiple tops to choose from, including a simple “ragtop” or a more durable removable hardtop.

9. Mini Convertible: $27,400

Mini is a premium brand, but it offers the second most affordable convertible on the market today. The Mini Convertible has many of the virtues of the more traditional Mini Hardtop, like go-kart-like handling and an unmistakable aesthetic while adding a convertible top for fun in the sun.

10. Mazda MX-5 Miata: $26,830

MX-5 Miata has always been an affordable convertible, but this year it earns the top spot as the most affordable convertible on the market. The Miata is a small car that’s big on value, as long as you don’t require back seats. It offers a driving experience that’s just plain fun at any speed thanks to its lightweight, eager engine, and of course, convertible top.
