Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 2.48%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 2.48%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Polynovo Ltd (ASX:PNV), which rose 4.07% or 0.100 points to trade at 2.560 at the close. Meanwhile, BWP Trust (ASX:BWP) added 2.55% or 0.10 points to end at 4.02 and Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX:PME) was up 0.73% or 0.20 points to 27.75 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Flight Centre Ltd (ASX:FLT), which fell 11.02% or 1.42 points to trade at 11.46 at the close. oOh!Media Ltd (ASX:OML) declined 8.82% or 0.09 points to end at 0.93 and Webjet Ltd (ASX:WEB) was down 8.63% or 0.32 points to 3.39.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 1007 to 316 and 318 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 14.47% to 23.761.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.18% or 3.20 to $1778.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.76% or 0.29 to hit $37.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.33 to trade at $39.98 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.07% to 0.6867, while AUD/JPY rose 0.09% to 73.58.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.15% at 97.270.
