Australia stocks lower at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 down 1.84%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 declined 1.84%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Perpetual Ltd (ASX:PPT), which rose 7.14% or 1.92 points to trade at 28.82 at the close. Meanwhile, Downer Edi Ltd (ASX:DOW) added 5.25% or 0.24 points to end at 4.81 and A2 Milk Company Ltd (ASX:A2M) was up 4.17% or 0.22 points to 5.49 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Domino’S Pizza Enterprises Ltd (ASX:DMP), which fell 11.71% or 7.03 points to trade at 52.98 at the close. Pendal Group Ltd (ASX:PDL) declined 10.67% or 0.54 points to end at 4.52 and Lend Lease Group (ASX:LLC) was down 8.73% or 0.75 points to 7.84.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 858 to 428 and 329 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was up 3.97% to 15.93.

Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.12% or 18.50 to $1,631.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.11% or 1.00 to hit $89.00 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.88% or 0.85 to trade at $95.31 a barrel.

AUD/USD was unchanged 0.57% to 0.63, while AUD/JPY fell 0.55% to 93.39.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.06% at 112.41.
