Australia stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/ASX 200 up 0.11%

At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 added 0.11%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Resolute Mining Ltd (ASX:RSG), which rose 8.45% or 0.030 points to trade at 0.385 at the close. Meanwhile, Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX:NST) added 5.59% or 0.500 points to end at 9.450 and Iress Ltd (ASX:IRE) was up 5.55% or 0.69 points to 13.12 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Domain Holdings Australia Ltd (ASX:DHG), which fell 8.51% or 0.48 points to trade at 5.16 at the close. Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) declined 7.63% or 6.83 points to end at 82.67 and Mesoblast Ltd (ASX:MSB) was down 7.12% or 0.105 points to 1.370.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sydney Stock Exchange by 717 to 701 and 341 ended unchanged.

Shares in Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX:APT) fell to 52-week lows; falling 7.63% or 6.83 to 82.67.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 4.07% to 12.305.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.25 to $1808.45 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.87% or 0.63 to hit $71.75 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.75% or 0.56 to trade at $74.46 a barrel.

AUD/USD was down 0.31% to 0.7161, while AUD/JPY fell 0.37% to 81.37.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 96.007.
